Edmundson Industrial sources soft starters — reduced-voltage, solid-state motor starters that ramp a motor up and down to cut inrush and mechanical shock. We supply the major lines across Allen-Bradley SMC, Eaton, Siemens, ABB, and Schneider, current and obsolete. Send the catalog number, or the motor HP and voltage, and we quote availability, condition, and lead time.
Independent sourcing, not an authorized distributor. We supply soft starters new-surplus, used-tested, and sourced-to-order, with condition disclosed before sale. Manufacturer names are used here for reference only.
Lines we source
Need speed control, not just a smooth start? A soft starter ramps voltage at line frequency; a
variable frequency drive controls speed. For across-the-line and combination units, see
motor starters.
How to specify a soft starter
- Motor horsepower and voltage
- Full-load amps (FLA) and service factor
- Starts per hour and duty (normal or heavy)
- Internal bypass or continuous-rated
- Control voltage and enclosure / NEMA type
How we quote a soft starter
- Send the catalog number, or the motor HP and voltage if you don't have one.
- We confirm the rating, bypass, control voltage, and enclosure.
- We quote condition, price, and lead time — new, surplus, or used-tested, same-day on most requests.
Condition & sourcing
We supply soft starters new-surplus, used-tested, and sourced-to-order, with condition disclosed before sale and photos on request. We are an independent surplus and sourcing company, not an authorized distributor.
FAQ
What is the difference between a soft starter and a VFD?
A soft starter ramps the voltage to limit inrush during start and stop, then runs the motor at line frequency; a VFD varies frequency to control speed continuously. If you only need a smooth start, a soft starter is simpler and lower-cost; if you need speed control, you need a VFD.
Do you carry obsolete Allen-Bradley SMC soft starters?
Yes. We source SMC-3, SMC Flex, and SMC-50, and the legacy SMC Dialog Plus, as new, surplus, and used-tested, and cross-reference to a current equivalent. Condition is disclosed before sale.
What do you need to size a soft starter?
The motor horsepower and voltage, the full-load amps, the starts per hour, and whether you need an internal bypass. A catalog number off the existing unit is fastest.
Are you an authorized distributor?
No. Edmundson Industrial is an independent surplus and sourcing company, not an authorized distributor. We supply new, surplus, and used-tested with condition disclosed before sale.
