The coil voltage. The base 6702ED584 is recorded as 1800 A with a 74 VDC coil. The -2 is recorded as the same 1800 A frame, listed by distributors with a 115 VDC coil.
The frame and the current rating are the parts of the number people read. The coil voltage is the part that decides whether the contactor works in your bay. It is a one-character difference on a nine-character number and it is the single most expensive thing to get wrong on this family.
A contactor with the wrong coil voltage will either fail to pull in or run hot and fail early. Neither failure mode announces itself as a coil problem, which is why it costs people a second contactor before they find it.
Under-driven, the coil does not develop enough force to seat the contacts — you get a contactor that will not pull in, or one that chatters and drops out under load. Over-driven, it seats fine and cooks. Read the whole number off the nameplate, including any suffix, and tell us the coil voltage your bay actually supplies.

Note the trap at the bottom of the table. Two different 1800 A contactors turn up in this equipment from two different manufacturers. Matching ratings do not make them interchangeable — check the manufacturer name on the nameplate, not just the rating.
An Eaton / Cutler-Hammer part. Ross Hill specified the 6702ED family into its SCR bays and catalogued the base number under a Ross Hill number, 0401-0021-00, but Ross Hill did not build it.
That has a practical consequence worth knowing: the part has a life independent of the Ross Hill parts chain, and a search against the Eaton number will usually turn up more than a search against the Ross Hill number. If you have only been quoted against a Ross Hill number, try the Eaton number.
