Ross Hill / NOV Cross-Reference

How Ross Hill and NOV part numbers line up, including where NOV used distinct numbers. Reference only; verify against the nameplate.

When NOV acquired Ross Hill Controls and the Hill Hayes SCR line, most numbering carried straight over, so in most cases the Ross Hill number and the NOV number are the same. The DC control modules are the main place that changed. Here's how the common numbers line up.

Reference only: verify against the nameplate. Independent sourcing, not an authorized distributor. Ross Hill and NOV are trademarks of their respective owners, used for reference only.

What a cross-reference can and cannot tell you

Read this before you use the table. A cross-reference is an identification aid. It is not a statement that two parts are interchangeable, and on this equipment the difference matters.

  • Same number is not the same thing as same part. NOV carried most Ross Hill numbering forward unchanged, so an identical number across both brands is normal and expected. It still needs verifying against the label.
  • The dash suffix usually carries the real information. Across these families a suffix can mean a frequency, an engine calibration, a motor field configuration, or a coil voltage. Two modules that share a base number and differ in the suffix are commonly not substitutes for one another.
  • Mechanical fit proves nothing. Most of these boards will drop into the rack whether or not they are correct for the set. The failure shows up afterwards, in behaviour rather than in fitment.
  • Some cross-reference entries require nameplate confirmation. Those entries are identification leads, not interchange statements.
  • The physical nameplate outranks every secondary reference. If paperwork and hardware disagree, send the complete installed label.
The practical version: send us the number exactly as it reads on the unit, plus a photo if you can take one, and tell us the rig and drive it came out of. That is faster and cheaper than ordering against a secondary reference and discovering the mismatch on the rig floor.

Starting from a symptom rather than a number: no firing pulses, a misfire, one leg dead? The SCR Drive Fault Finder maps what you are seeing to the suspect module first.

Condition & sourcing

We supply Ross Hill and NOV drilling parts as new, new-surplus, used-tested, and reconditioned, with condition disclosed before sale and photos on request. We are an independent surplus and sourcing company, not an authorized distributor.

What replaces an obsolete Ross Hill SCR drive module?

Most legacy Ross Hill / NOV modules have a direct like-for-like replacement (new-surplus, used-tested, or reconditioned), and every one of them also has a modern retrofit path when a like-for-like swap is no longer viable. Use the table to map the number printed on your board to its direct replacement and its retrofit alternative. Verify Model 1400 vs Model 1500 generation before ordering: phase cells and several PCBs are not interchangeable across generations.

Cross-reference of obsolete Ross Hill / NOV SCR drive components to direct replacement modules and modern retrofit alternatives, as supplied by Edmundson Industrial (Houston, TX). Pricing by RFQ only.

FAQ

Did NOV change the Ross Hill part numbers?
Mostly no. NOV carried most Ross Hill / Hill Hayes numbering forward, so the same number usually applies. The DC control modules are the main exception, where NOV used distinct 6415- numbers.
Is your cross-reference guaranteed?
It is a reference to help you identify the right part. Always verify the exact dash number and revision against the module or nameplate label before ordering; we confirm at quote.
Which Ross Hill or NOV identifier can I send?
Yes. Send whichever number you have and we will identify the part and source it as new old stock, surplus, used-tested, or reconditioned.
Are you an authorized distributor?
No. Edmundson Industrial is an independent surplus and sourcing company, not an authorized distributor.
