Buying a Used SCR House: What to Check

Most SCR houses change hands used. What you check before committing decides whether you bought equipment or a project.

Independent sourcing, not an authorized distributor. Ross Hill, NOV, and other manufacturer names are used for reference only. We supply new-surplus, used-tested, and reconditioned equipment with condition disclosed before sale, and we fabricate enclosures, panels, and assemblies in house. Complete-system requirements are sourced and quoted case by case — tell us the scope and we will tell you honestly what we can put together.

Documentation

Schematics, assembly drawings, and the original parts list add real value and are routinely lost. A house with complete drawings is worth meaningfully more than an identical one without, because troubleshooting time on undocumented equipment is where budgets disappear.

Routine versus deal-stopping

FindingAssessment
Dirty bays, degraded filters, tired blowersRoutine. Budget it and move on.
A few missing or suspect control boardsRoutine. Boards are sourceable — get numbers and price them before closing.
Surface corrosion, worn door sealsRoutine.
Standing water damage inside baysSerious. Inspect deeply or walk.
Heat damage across multiple baysSerious. Suggests a systemic problem, not one failure.
Console stripped or wiring cutSerious. Re-terminating a console is a major undertaking.
Structural corrosion at the baseSerious. Cost of remediation can exceed the equipment value.

Price the gaps before you close

The purchase price is not the cost. Missing modules, boards, fuses, and blowers are what turn a bargain into an overrun. Send us the list of what is missing or suspect and we will price the gaps — before you commit, not after.

FAQ

What is the most commonly overlooked item on a used SCR house?
Missing control modules, and cooling. Modules are the expensive gap; degraded blowers and filters cause problems that get misdiagnosed as device failures for years.
Is water damage always fatal?
Not always, but it is the finding that most often justifies walking away. Water in the bays affects insulation, connections, and devices in ways that are difficult to fully assess in a yard.
Should I buy a house without drawings?
You can, but price it accordingly. Undocumented equipment costs more to troubleshoot over its life.
Can you help evaluate one before I buy?
Send photographs of the plates, bays, and console along with the module part numbers. We will tell you what we see and what the gaps will cost to fill.
